Love and It's Type

By  Meredith Shirey, MS, LMFT As a therapist specializing in  relationship issues , I often see people in therapy existentially contemplating what  love  really means. Some wonder whether they truly love(d) their partner, or if their partner truly loves/loved them. These are complicated questions because they often require defining “true love.” This is, of course, a subjective venture; love may look and feel different to different people. But in considering such questions for yourself, it may be helpful to think about love on a couple of levels: ego love and authentic love (often referred to as “soul love”). Ego Love When we determine we have fallen in love with someone, this is often done based on  euphoric  feelings of infatuation. We think about the person constantly, craving connection with them both physically and emotionally. We want to know their thoughts, feelings, wants, and needs. We want to know about their past, be in their prese...

What is Tort ?

Tort law is the area of law that protects people from bad acts of others. When a person commits a tort, they violate civil law. If a person is damaged by someone else’s wrongful act, they can bring a claim for compensation against the person who commits the tort. The purpose of tort law is to ensure that wrongdoers pay for the damage that they cause instead of the victims. Torts aren’t crimes A tort can be a crime. However, tort law is not criminal law. Tort law gives a victim a civil remedy in the courts. Sometimes, a tort is also a crime. Whether or not the state pursues criminal charges, a person can pursue a civil remedy in the courts. A litigant doesn’t need the permission of a prosecutor or a district attorney in order to initiate a court action. Instead, they draft a complaint. That’s a document that lists what the other party did wrong. It asks for the relief that’s allowed under the law. A tort action begins when the person files the claim in a court. The damag...

Govt needs to find sustainable solution for price stabilisation of Tomatoes-onions-potatoes

Context: Tomatoes-onions-potatoes (TOP)  are the  three basic vegetables  that face  extreme price volatility  and the government often finds itself on the edge in fulfilling its  dual objectives  of ensuring remunerative prices for farmers and affordable prices for consumers. Last month, on September 13, when  onion retail prices  crossed Rs 40/kg in Delhi, the government was hyperactive and  imposed a minimum export price (MEP) of $850/tonne . Later on, as prices went further up to Rs 50-60/kg, stocking limits were imposed on traders and exports of onions were banned. It  created problems in neighbouring countries , especially Bangladesh. Tomatoes-onions-potatoes (TOP) Volatility: With a coefficient of variation (CV) of 52 per cent,  onion is the most volatile , followed by tomato (47 per cent) and potato (31 per cent). Potato is the least volatile because of higher processing-to-production share (7 per cent...

The nature and meaning of law

The nature and meaning of law has been described by various jurists. However, there is no unanimity of opinion regarding the true nature and meaning of law. The reason for lack of unanimity on the subject is that the subject has been viewed and dealt with by different jurists so as to formulate a general theory of legal order at different times and from different points of view, that is to say, from the point of view of nature, source, function and purpose of law, to meet the needs of some given period of legal development. Therefore, it is not practicable to give a precise and definite meaning to law which may hold good for all times to come. However, it is desirable to refer to some of the definitions given by different jurists so as to clarify and amplify the term ‗law‘. The various definitions of law propounded by legal theorists serve to emphasize the different facets of law and build up a complete and rounded picture of the concept of law. Hereinafter we shall refer ...
